I feel like I'm Kenny

What up the family,

Second All Nighter in a row and my exam isn’t ill Monday. I fucking love med school. Read that literally no sarcasm intended. I love music too, been listening to lots lately. Finally Got that You Forgot it in People album, thanks Carmin. Been listening to some random shit Mates of State, Minus the Bear, LCD, !!!, Yamasuki, some french shit, S. Sisters, Dungen, explosions. clap your hands, thanks in large part to ripping everything off Daves computer with my Ipod.

Its a fucking good feeling to realize you made the right decision with your life and your happy as hell where you are. I had that realization sophomore year in Asheville, and I'm having again now. I'm still imbalanced, that I need to work on, but my intellectual and emotional selves are in good health. I'm riding some, not enough, and I'm not climbing. I've been wading through the bull shit government tape of getting to use the climbing wall on campus. Forming some interesting new relationships with inspiring, eccentric people.

I saw my roommates this morning for the first time in a week and a half. That how little I'm at home. I leave at 7:20 every morning, ride to school, and I'm here until anywhere from 2-5am. Its alittle nuts, I've decided to abstain from sleep. Its so inconvenient when theres so much to do. I've involved myself in a shit ton of clubs. The opportunities here are fantastic, there is lots of money and support to create all kinds of projects. I'm going to Cuba for a few weeks in December to work in a clinic and visit Burkett who ya'll might remember from UNCA. He has started Med School down there this semester.

I'm going to try and make it up to the hills Oct. 12. If anyone wants to come down and check out a show next week is a good week. Also, instead of me coming up to Asheville, if anyone wants to head up to Washington and check out John's sexy ass I'm down for that too. I have from the 10th to the 14th off. John, is that an ok time for you?

Carmine in brief response to your post a ways back about katrina and the lack of response; nationally yes but I’m personally super impressed with the response of my classmates. We have stared and completed some awesome projects, too many to list. But remember its all about the grassroots man fuck the gov and fuck the media. On a related topic, one of my friends here at school just went through he naturalization process today, and in a few weeks will become a citizen of the US. Its been pretty wild to learn more about his experience and motivations. We take a lot for granted being popped out on this soil.

miss ya'll fuckers,

Ian

ps. why Kenny? B/C I'm spending 12 or more hours a day in front of my computer screen. I feel like my vision is getting worse by the day and my soul is getting weaker and weaker until I will soon cease to exist. Kenny is this a perpetual decline or will it eventually plateau? Also are there any tricks to survival I should know about? B/c I don't see this leting up anytime soon, unless I destroy vast forests by printing out volumes of text books that I have saved on my computer.

  • Ian,
Its good to hear that med school is going well. I think you will find a better balance, I too got my self involved with what I now know was too much activities, clubs, etc. my first semester. Working 80+ hours a week almost killed me, so take it easy, we are young and have plently of time. Eating properly and exercise will make the long days much more tolerable. Secondly, when at a computer for long periods of time, get up and stretch every ten minutes or so, it gets the blood flowing. Flat panel monitors are much better for your eyes try to find some at school. And on paper, buy and use recycled paper products, it creates a demand for them making the recycled paper industry more profitable. We recyvle a lot of paper in the U.S. but no one really buys it, hints why a lot gets thrown away. I will keep you all posted about my fall schedule.
    John
